The year is 1872, the streets are full and chaotic. You make your way to a small, quiet stream and sit down beside a woman on a bench. She’s reading a book but you can’t make out the title. Then you see it, Pride and Prejudice. One of the most famous books of its time. Jane Austen was an English novelist who wrote only 6 books but somehow managed to influence the world, even today. She was born in Steventon, UK on December 16, 1775. Austen started writing when she was just a teenager. She had a strong, loving household and shared a close bond with her sister, Cassandra. Jane Austen widely impacted people with her themes of love and independence. Her writing didn’t become widely prominent until the late 1800’s. While her hit novel Pride and Prejudice is the most popular, Austen wrote 5 other books that explored the different concepts of what it was like to live in that time. Pride and Prejudice has been made into many movies, the most well-known being the 2005 adaptation. Austen sadly passed at the age of 41 in 1817, but she is remembered as one of the best writers of her time.
